TAU – tournament for the little ones

ROBINDALE – Laerskool Unika hosted their annual rugby and netball tournament where every player was a winner.

Laerskool Unika in Robindale, celebrated their 10th annual prestigious Tau-tournament (Tau – a Sotho word for lion). This year 13 schools with 50 rugby teams and 75 netball teams (1 250 children and about 2 500 parents) participated.

This tournament gave schools from all over Johannesburg the opportunity to compete in their different age groups, starting with U6 up to U8.

”The main purpose was definitely not to win, but rather to develop a passion and love of the game, to teach new skills and to experience the enjoyment of being part of [a] team – every player was a winner,” explained Laerskool Unika enquiries and admissions officer Anèl Engelbrecht.

The schools that participated in this year’s tournament were Bryanston Parallel Medium, Bryanston Primary, Curro Aurora, the King’s School Robin Hills, Laerskool Generaal Christiaan de Wet, Laerskool Dalmondeor, Laerskool Esperanza, Laerskool Fairland, Laerskool Fontainbleau, Laerskool Generaal De La Rey, Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge, Trinityhouse Little Falls and Laerskool Unika.

To top the tournament off, the little ones will be on the television show Let’s Play in the coming weeks.
