LISTEN and WATCH: Artist on the rise

WINDSOR WEST – Yeshua Moraka talks disappointments, lessons and his hopes in the music industry.

Windsor resident Yeshua Moraka (24) left his job as an assistant teacher at New South Baptist Christian School to focus on his acting, modelling and music career.

The journey has not been easy but because of his zeal, this young muso has released music available on sound cloud.

Ancillar Mangena had a chat with the talented artist:

How has your music progressed?

I would say it’s just a case of discovery. I’ve tasted successes and disappointments in the last year or so and those have heavily influenced my musical journey and my upcoming project called Sticky Souls.

Why should people listen to your music?

Well because it’s their music too. My music is about them, their struggles and successes; their victories and losses. I’m just a guy who gets to write about it. I’m the privileged one.

What kind of music do you make for the people?

My music would be a fusion of folk, RnB, Hip Hop, rock, and cinematic sounds amongst others – a reflection of the mess in my conceptual mind probably all the sounds my subconscious stored up. It’s something your soul might recognise long before your ears do.

What should people look forward to in your music?

Well, it’s extremely different. It’s art that refuses to fit in and demands to be heard. There are a lot of relatable accounts. You will find a part of you in it. It’s also extremely honest, there’s a double dose of vulnerability and most of all it’s beautiful.

What challenges have you faced as an upcoming musician in the industry?

For one, my trip to the United States for the Applause Rising Talent Showcase at The World Marriot Centre falling through as a result of a lack of funds. It was heavily disappointing. But the whole experience has taught me the importance of timing and determination. The opportunity still stands and I hope to be able to attend and represent the country some day.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Difficult question but I would say in a place of influence. In five years I would have released more music, scored a film, written a book, frequented as a motivational speaker and a philanthropist.
