Fontainebleau resident showcases her cooking skills

FONTAINEBLEAU – Local resident and finalist in InstaCook competition, says she likes creating the right mood for the food to be eaten.

Pick n Pay recently hosted an exciting cooking/photo sharing competition called InstaCook.

An astounding number of entries were received for the competition which ran from mid-January to the end of February.

Entrants were required to whip up a dish using a recipe from the Pick n Pay website or Fresh Living magazine; style it, snap it and upload it in one of 10 categories on the InstaCook website.

The 50 most popular dishes were determined by a public voting system and from there the judges carefully selected the top 20 dishes based on innovation and overall presentation. The 20 finalists joined the judges in Johannesburg for a thrilling trolley dash and a final cliff-hanger of a cook-off at the Pick n Pay Good Food Studio.

Fontainebleau resident, who was one of the finalists, Barnaby Yvonne Bardsley created an amazing white chocolate strawberry tart that captivated the judges attention.

Bardsley said her dish was inspired by an original recipe that came from the Fresh Living magazine. “I visited France and just loved the baked base strawberry tarts, and therefore I modified the recipe,” she said. Bardsley stated that she enjoys complex dishes which are artistic and creative as well as being very tasty. “My favourite desert at the moment is my meringue tower; my main course would be tuna steak seared in sesame seeds with Asian vegetables.

“I love having lots of friends around and trying out new recipes. The whole cooking, preparation and end product is like a journey. I love creating beautiful table settings and the right mood for the food to be eaten,” concluded Bardsley.
