Residents complain about sinking driveway

RANDPARK RIDGE – The Healy's driveway is sinking while the City takes its time to repair it.

Residents Ailsa and Colin Healy, who have been living in the area for the last 25 years, have had various issues with a water pipe in front of their property situated on Tinktinkie Road.

According to Colin, the pipe was replaced earlier this year after it had burst three times since March 2014. “The problem now is that Johannesburg Water (JW) has to reinstate our driveway after they just left it in a mess in Janunary.”

He explained that Johannesburg Roads Agency dug up Tinktinkie Road to gain access to the leaking water pipe.

“They closed the road up again and covered it with tar but they didn’t compress the soil prior to laying the tar and now the road is gradually sinking. The same is happening with our driveway.”

His wife Ailsa said that it’s so bad that people who visit them have to park their cars on the road because they can’t park in the sinking driveway.

“The City promised to come and fix it in June but it’s still two months away and I think by then it would have sunk down a lot more.”

The entity’s external communications officer Eleanor Mavimbela confirmed that the pipe burst three times since March 2014 but she was unable to state exactly when the entity plans to fix the sinking road and driveway.

“Complaining about it doesn’t help because I went to Joburg Water and our driveway is still in the same shocking state,” concluded Ailsa.
