Robbers shot and killed a man in Bromhof

BROMHOF – Resident shocked at response time of police and emergency services.

Late Tuesday night, 7 April when two shots were fired, resident Gerhard Erasmus at first did not know what to make of the sounds.

“I soon realised that they were gun shots when my neighbour’s children called us for help.” He explained that when he arrived on scene he noticed that his neighbour had been shot twice.

“One shot went into his abdomen and the other into his chest and his family called the police and ambulance services immediately.”

According to Erasmus, the incident took place at Shiraz Estate complex in Bromhof at around midnight. “The perpetrators tried to gain access to the house but when they couldn’t get in, they shot the man through his security gate.

“We called the operator at Honeydew Police numerous times and she kept on saying that the police will arrive in a couple of minutes, only to discover that they arrived an hour later. The ambulance took half and hour and the man kept on fighting but unfortunately, he passed away moments before the ambulance arrived,” continued Erasmus.

“The speed of the emergency services and police shock me. It’s scary to think what might have happened if the police and ambulance arrived at the scene on time.”

The identity of the deceased is withheld until all family members have been notified of his death.

Comment from Honeydew Police and EMS are still awaited.
