Murder rate shocker

JOBURG – SAPS' lack of resources might be contributing to the high murder rate.

South Africa’s murder rate has increased.

According to statistics, 47 people are killed in the country every day compared to 45 in the 2012/13 financial year.

DA Gauteng Shadow MEC for Community Safety Kate Lorimer said lack of resources contributes to the country’s murder rates.

“Part of the problem is that there are not enough police vehicles operating 24/7,” Lorimer said.

“We need more resources, and police need to be trained, so that people can rely on them for safety,” she said.

When we contacted SAPS, both provincial and national spokespersons refused to give a clear comment.
