MULTIMEDIA: Roars of protest

NOOITGEDACHT – Roar and hoot to show support against canned lion hunting.

A global march against canned lion hunting was held at the Lion Park in Lanseria on 21 March.

Supporters from all walks of life came to show solidarity in their support to ban and expose canned lion hunting.

Linda Park, director of Campaign Against Canned Lion Hunting (CACH), spoke at the protest saying,

“We all care about our lions, or else we would not all be here.” Children, women and men came in their hundreds with banners, painted faces and their spirits to chant ‘Stop canned hunting!’

Listen to the loud protests of the crowd.

On the other side of the road, supporters of the Lion Park also protested in their numbers. The supporters chanted and claimed that the park loves and cares for their animals. Others challenged, ‘Show us the proof ‘.

The group was lively with a drum circle opposing the views that the park supports canned lion hunting.

In and among the chaos and protest, the Lion Park remained open for business with visitors leaving and entering the facility.

“It is bewildering, taking pictures of the visitors as they leave while they take pictures of us. If only they knew,” said an anti-canned hunting supporter.

Park said, “The hand-reared, human-habituated, adult lions are then killed by trophy hunters with rifles or crossbows.”

Cars flocked up and down the road, running adjacent to the park with many supporters of both sides.

The Lion Park is yet to comment.
