Animal care in Kya Sand
KYA SAND – Kya Sand Community Veterinary Clinic provides animal care at the Pipeline Informal Settlement.
The Kya Sand Community Veterinary Clinic (KSCV) held one of their frequent clinics at the Pipeline Informal Settlement on 31 January.
Residents of the community in the Pipeline Informal Settlement and Kya Sand area flocked to the clinic to receive treatment for their animals.
KSCV offers animal services at a reduced cost.
The services include vaccination, deworming, flea and tick dipping as well as sterilisation.
The health care of the animals is of high importance to the volunteers of KSCV and other interested individuals.
Concerned resident of the area, Klarika (Nomsa) Nettleton of the Bloubosrand Animal Welfare Group – a sub-committee of the Bloubosrand Community Forum frequently attended the clinic.
Throughout the day Nettleton proceeded to inform residents of the clinic on a megaphone.
She works with the animals in many impoverished areas. “I work with a lot of people in this area. The state of this place is not suitable for children or animals. Residents need to see the kind of poverty that is rife in this community,” said Nettleton.
She offers a free service to the animals in the area; she is always in the need of donations of any kind such as animal food, blankets or monetary donations.
Member of KSCV Karen Loots commented,”We offer this clinic to the residents in this area as a way to promote the welfare of pets in Kya Sand. We run this clinic charging a very small amount. We do not however, support the breeding of pets and encourage sterilisation.”
The clinic runs from 2pm until 5pm the dates are as follows:
28 February, 28 March, 25 April, 23 May, 27 June, 25 July, 29 August, 26 September, 31 October, 21 November and finally 5 December.
