Poor and shody work in Sharon Lea

SHARONLEA – Resident claims that Joburg Water failed to do its work properly and has left a storm drain uncovered and the road not fully paved.

Joburg Road Agency employees have been blamed for leaving part of the road in Suikerbossie Avenue unfinished again, on 21 January.

According to Becky Smith, a resident at Ululapa complex, “In September 2014 one of Joburg water pipes sprung a leak in the middle of Suikerbossie Street in Sharonlea Ext 17. We reported the problem to Joburg Water, reference number 8001956912, but no one came out to fix the pipe.”

Smith added they eventually came out to fix and said they could not repave the road straight away as they need to see if it is ground water or their pipe that was causing the water leak.

They left it for a month and no water was seen leaking so she called them again, to come and repave the road.

After the intervention of Ward 101 councillor Ralf Bittkau, Joburg Road Agency’s Hamberg depot send the employees to repave the road, on 19 January, but still it was shoddy.

They came back again on 21 January worked on it but left it unfinished, again without any explanation.

“I don’t know if they are doing it in stages but the job is very shoddy. I am assuming this piece has been put in until they come back and do a proper job,” remarked Smith.

Joburg Road Agency was contacted, and the response is still awaited.
