Football legend makes his mark

HONEYDEW – "I just want to develop young people with soccer skills," said Peter Grgin from Eagle Canyon Football Club.

Football legend Peter Grgin is giving back to the less-privileged.

Through his soccer programme at the Eagle Canyon Estate, Grgin says he is ready to take youngsters under his wing.

“I am very proud of this initiative, I just want to develop young people with soccer skills,” said Grgin.

“I started soccer skills training for kids after doing research on what was available for young kids and found very little around,” he added, “so I decided to design and implement my own programme largely based on research from the United Kingdom.

He further stated, “I also noticed that there were many young kids who were not skilled enough to play in a competitive club and wished to participate in the game, even if only on a fun level.”

The Eagle Canyon Football Club now invites parents and kids from outside the Estate to join a fun soccer club for kids from three years to 10 years.

“Both boys and girls are welcome and no previous exposure to soccer applies,” said Grgin.

The club was founded two years ago by Grgin who has over 35 years of soccer experience both as a Premier League player and coach and has managed to coach players at all levels of the sport.

Grgin explained that his club is unique in that it offers skills training to youngsters but also provides in-house games at every session.

“Friendly games against other estates are arranged, once a month,” said Grgin.

He also said they participate in fundraising activities for animal rescue organisations and from this year, invite previously disadvantaged children to join the club.

The club’s first open day for the season is 2 March.
