Don’t be misled by fake police signage

RANDBURG – The public is warned to be on the lookout for a black Audi A3 with fake police signage – suspects are armed and dangerous.

The community is advised to be wary of a black Audi A3, registration JNC 721 GP and call sign on the vehicle is RR1743 – they are believed to be armed and dangerous.

Beagle Watch Armed Response posted a warning on their Facebook page when the car was spotted on Malibongwe Drive on the morning of 7 January.

The suspects are four black males and one is dressed in full police uniform.

“If you compare it to another police vehicle, it is definitely different. If anyone has a sighting of the vehicle, please call us immediately,” urged control room operator of Beagle Watch Armed Response, Ben Poly.

Operations manager of the Linden SAPS, Captain Alex Vermaak, verified that there has been community verification, however, official confirmation of the vehicle and the suspects is still awaited.

“It is definitely not an official police vehicle. We do not have a registration ending with ‘GP’; our registration has a ‘B’ at the end of it,” said Capt Vermaak.

“The suspect impersonating an officer could be charged with a minimum of three years in jail and if the suspects are found in possession of stolen or unlicensed firearms, they could face up to three to 10 years in jail,” added Capt Vermaark.

Capt Vermaak urges the public to contact the Linden SAPS immediately should they see the suspects and to take a picture of the vehicle if possible.
