Imagine if, for 16 days, there was no rape, no child abuse

WINDSOR EAST – African Congress Women’s League campaigns to create awareness of the 16 Days of Activism for no Violence against Women and Children.

The African National Congress (ANC) Women’s League of the Bheki Mkhize Branch, marched in Windsor East on 6 December to highlight violence faced by women and children.

The aim was to mobilise the community and get their support in respecting, caring and protecting our women and children.

The 16 Days of Activism runs from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) through to International Human Rights Day on 10 December.

“Most of our members live in Windsor East and we know, Windsor is riddled with crime, drugs and many forms of abuse. We have reached a point where we can no longer sit and watch,” said the secretary of the ANC Women’s League Thule Mdleleni.

At around 6.30 pm the ANC Women’s League took to the streets to spread the message of ‘Save our children and women, and break the silence

against abuse’.

The march was conducted at sunset because the marchers wanted to “take back the night”, according to Tankiso Mohapi.

She added that they wanted residents in Windsor to see their candles, depicting a brighter future for children and women.

“We have action plans in place for January so we needed to create awareness around that. I feel that the demonstration was a success as our meeting on Sunday, following the demonstration, was well attended. All I can say is things are going to change in this community – big time!”

exclaimed Mdleleni.
