Seat belts save lives

ROODEPOORT — One driver survives a close call after an accident.

One person has been transported to hospital after a vehicle accident on the notorious corner of Ontdekkers Road and Corlett Drive on 2 December.

According to Quick Response Services, the drivers sustained minor injuries and was transported to the nearest hospital. “Luckily both drivers had their seatbelts on and they sustained minor injuries,” said owner of the ambulance service, Denver Ramnarain.

The cause of the accident remains unclear at the moment, however, the other driver escaped without injury.

Road accidents are rife during this time of the year and Ramnarain urges all road users to practise caution while on the roads. He added, “accidents happen all the time, all it takes is a momentary lapse in concentration. Stay alert and buckle up.”

This week, the Minister of Transport Dipuo Peters said drivers caught over the speed limit or intoxicated on the roads this festive would face immediate jail time.
