Joint cleanup operation in Sonneglans

SONNEGLANS – About 200 cleaners clean litter and overgrowth in open land.

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo, Pikitup and Metro Police held a cleanup operation in Sonneglans on 10 November. They cleaned litter and cut overgrowth in the land next to Malibongwe Drive between the N1 Highway and President Fouché Road. The operation was organised by Ward 101 urban inspector Linda Hlatshwayo, on the behest of Ward 101 councilor Ralf Bittkau.

Bittkau said that the operation was “like Christmas early”. Honeydew Sector 1 Community Policing Forum Chairperson Greg Pearce was on scene. “I have never seen so many bags [of collected rubbish],” he said. Pearce added that about 200 people cleaned the area with about eight trucks and some front-end loaders. “It was very impressive,” he said. “They cleaned up the area, made it beautiful. The amount of equipment was also impressive.”
