Cell C to take irate customer to court

FAIRLAND– Hell hath no fury like a fuming Cell C customer who is now being taken to court for naming and shaming one of South Africa’s largest service providers.

Cell C will launch an urgent court application on Monday to have a banner erected by an angry customer removed.

According to Cell C spokesperson Karin Fourie, the service provider will launch the application at the Johanneburg High Court against the customer and World Wear Shopping Centre where the banner was put up turning heads of passers-by.

“Letters of demand to remove the banner were issued to both the customer and the centre management at WorldWear Shopping Centre on Thursday evening,” Fourie told SAPA.

This letter was ignored by both parties because as at Monday 11am the banner was still on the wall.

The resident who performed an act that may be considered bold by some and defamatory by others is still unknown at this stage.

The banner reads The most useless service provider in SA- Cell C Sandton City…

The complainant resorted to this action because they could not receive help from the Cell C Sandton City branch’s customer service.

World Wear Shopping Centre management said they will comment on the matter shortly.

However, a woman named Beverley called into 702, claiming to be an employee of the person that put up the banner.

“My boss had an issue with Cell C via the Sandton City Store. We tried very hard to get hold of somebody to explain what the problem was…when we couldn’t get any [help] my boss said, ‘this is what they do to every little man out there… I have got money and I will do something for everyone out there; we will see what they do’ and he went ahead and put up the banner,” she said.

Beverly said she expects Cell C to take them to court.

“We have got facts, figures, email correspondence; my boss is also not a fool, he wouldn’t put up something like that if he know he had everything to back up what he said,” she said.

Do you think the banner was defamatory?
