Dognapped through the car window

CRESTA – Peanut allegedly taken through car window while traffic light was red.

Peanut was allegedly dognapped at the corner of Beyers Naudé Drive and Weltevreden Road, Cresta, on 29 October. Her owner Helen Kotzen explained that she was in her vehicle, stopped at a red traffic light when the incident occurred. Kotzen was in the driving seat with Peanut on the seat behind her. Peanut’s window was open. While waiting for the light to change, a man in a white vehicle behind Kotzen, stepped out and gestured to her to look out of her left window.

He then quickly went around to the right side of Kotzen’s vehicle, reached through the window, and allegedly lifted Peanut out the vehicle. Kotzen could not see past her headrest, and heard nothing of the incident. She drove for two blocks before she realised that Peanut was missing. She returned to the corner and looked around for Peanut for an hour without success. “I think they wanted to distract me to get out,” Kotzen said. “I think they were after my car.”

Although Kotzen did not see the incident, she does not believe that Peanut jumped out the vehicle, as she has never done this. She believes Peanut was dognapped. The next day Kotzen opened a case with Randburg Police Station, which was then transferred to Linden Police Station. If anyone should find Peanut, please phone Kotzen. Peanut is a small black and brown terrier cross. She is five years old and weighs 7kg. She is microchipped, so a vet can identify her.
