Motorcyclist dies in accident on dangerous corner

JUKSKEI PARK – Another accident occurs on Robyn Street, this one fatal.

A motorcyclist recently died in an accident on Robyn Street, Jukskei Park, on a curve apparently notorious for accidents. Two residents brought attention to the accident, but Douglasdale police spokesperson Warrant Officer Balan Muthan could not confirm the incident.

Maria van Kroonenburg said that she could not say how the accident occurred, but a motorcyclist drove into the back of a car. His helmet fell off, and he flew into the pavement and died instantly. Police arrived quickly, but the body could not be removed for “at least three hours”, due to a wait for a forensic analyst to arrive to investigate the cause of death.

Sandor Brachner explained that the particular stretch of road is dangerous. “Robyn [Street] has a sharp corner, and people drive fast,” he said. He added the guardrail on the curve had been broken and replaced many times by vehicles not being able to turn in time and driving through it.

Details: Douglasdale police 011 699 1333.
