UPDATE: JRA will lay rumble humps on Dover street

FERNDALE - JRA team confirms that they will be on site tomorrow, laying rumble humps as a temporary measure, on Dover and Main streets.

Following previous reports on an accident-prone zone in Ferndale – Dover and Main streets as well as Elgin Road, JRA has come up with temporary measures. Refer to articles on Randburg Sun.

On 17 September JRA Operations, Marketing and Communications manager Bertha Peters-Scheepers states, “The team has confirmed that they will be on site tomorrow (18 September), laying rumble humps as a temporary measure, as well as installing concrete barriers as a means of ensuring the safety of the community. However, the accidents at the bend are the result of reckless driving and this remains a concern.”

According to the resident whose house was the latest target, the high accident zone is, “as Dover passes through a residential area, past two churches in the suburb crossing lots of stop streets, a four-way stop – which is often ignored – and of course, into the notorious bend after the NGK Church.”

Ward councillor 102 David Potter argues that, “A lot of the issues are not only the responsibility of the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) but enforcement by JMPD. Motorists also need to take control of their actions and abide by the rules of the road in the interests of road safety for all… It must be noted that installing traffic calming measures is not always a solution and residents must be cautious and mindful of this.”
