Rhino Rally shatters records

BLAIRGOWRIE – Bike SA organises biking event of the year in Parys.

Randburg-based magazine and event organisers, Bike SA, hosted the biggest bike rally in South African history on 5 to 7 September in the picturesque Free State town of Parys.

The rally, which has been hosted annually since 1976, had record turnout this year, but that was not the only record broken at the event.

The Citizen newspaper journalist, André de Kock and his partner in dare-devil-ism, Enrico Schoeman, broke the Guinness World Record for the longest side-car bike ride though a fire tunnel of 120 metres.

“It was the biggest ever rally in the history of South African motorcycling,” said biking legend and event organiser, Simon Fourie. “The town of Parys was wonderful, all the authorities were brilliant and I just couldn’t believe that everything can go so right, including the weather. It was like summer officially started at the Rhino.”

Between live bands, live wrestling, tandem skydiving, a mass ride through the town, freestyle motocross, a ‘wheelie’ street and much more, event goers were spoiled for choice when it came to entertainment.
