Celebrate spring with classical music

BLAIRGOWRIE – Rand Symphony Orchestra to perform its Spring Concert.

The Rand Symphony Orchestra will perform its Spring Concert at the NG Church in Malcolm Road, Blairgowrie, on 31 August and 6 September.

The concert is sure to be enjoyable as the last time the orchestra performed for its Youth Concert on 1 June, the show was a great success (see previous article).

The Spring Concert will take the form of a traditional symphony concert, with Carel Henn as guest conductor and pianist Elize Kruger as the soloist.

The programme starts with the Overture to Stradella by Friedrich von Flotow, followed by Mendelssohn’s First Piano Concerto, and ending with Haydn’s London Symphony, No. 104.

Kruger is a freelance musician and teacher studying her PhD in Music at the North-West University.

She is also head of music at Jeppe High School for Girls.

Henn is a founding member of the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra.

He performs regularly with various chamber music groups and has released his own albums.

The Spring Concert will take place at 3.30pm on 31 August and 7.30pm on 6 September.

Tickets cost R100 for adults, R80 for pensioners and students, R60 for pre-school children, and a family ticket for up to two adults and up to four children will be available for R250.

Tickets will be available from 2.30pm on 31 August and from 6.30pm on 6 September at the church hall.
