BREAKING NEWS: shootout at Cresta, robbers get away with iPhones and iPads

CRESTA – One suspect and one innocent bystander are shot.

A shootout occurred between robbers and police at Cresta Shopping Centre on 13 August, resulting in one of the suspects and one innocent bystander being shot.

No one was killed.

Hillbrow Police cluster spokesperson Thabu Malatji confirmed that three robbers stormed the iStore at about 10.30am, all armed. They made staff and customers lie on the floor while they filled bags with goods. When police and security companies arrived, the robbers were still in the iStore and shot their way out through the centre, through Entrance 4 and into the parking lot.

A resident was trying to park his car in the parking lot and the robbers shot him in the shoulder. The robbers made a quick getaway in a white Corsa bakkie and a black Audi. Malatji said that a case of business robbery and attempted murder has been opened with the Hillbrow Police and no arrests have been made yet.

  1. Bizarrely, earliet reports said it was iPhones and iPads from iStore which were stolen. Also that it was just a silver Corsa bakkie for which an MP licence plate number was given.
    Some severe discrepancies I think.
