Can’t keep a good Bullet down

BROMHOF – Shocking story of dog shot in the head, execution style, and how he was saved by a heroic vet.

The life of a dog that was shot in the back of the head and left for dead, has been saved by a local heroic vet named Le-anne Kleynhans.

Kleynhans was driving home after a day at her veterinary practice in Bromhof on 7 July, when she noticed an animal lying next to the road. Compelled to see what animal it was, she pulled over to inspect.

To her surprise, she found a fully grown Saint Bernard in a severely injured condition, but still alive. Assuming that the large animal was hit by a car, she managed to flag down another motorist who helped her put the dog in the back of her car.

She took him back to her practice just in time, as the dog had started having seizures, and was able to stabilise the animal before making the shocking discovery that the dog had been shot in the back of the head, execution style.

Because the dog had made it thus far and was still alive, employees at Bromhof Vetrinary Clinic put in every effort to save him – determined to see him make a full recovery.

“He deserved a fighting chance,” said clinic receptionist, Linsey Lester. “After a lot of tender loving care, he was able to walk again a few days later. He has made a remarkable recovery.”

The clinic was even kind enough to find the dog a new home with a family of animal lovers in Northcliff, who affectionately named him ‘Bullet’.

“We’ve always wanted a Saint Bernard,” said Dave Jordaan, who adopted the dog. “It’s like it was meant to be, for him to come live with us.”

Bullet will be going for more check-ups in the next week or two to see if the bullet can be removed, but for now, he’s just enjoying all the love, family and treats he has found in his new home.
