Police operation bears fruits

RANDBURG – Police, City Parks and security companies team up to clean-out greenbelt area and suspects arrested for drug dealing.

A joint operation between Randburg and Parkview Police, Metro Police, City Parks and the Department of Home Affairs took place on 17 July in and around the Greenbelt area within the City, which police claim to have been very successful.

The law enforcement teams were joined by security companies ADT, Community Security Services (CSS), and 24/7.

The operation began at 10pm and concluded at 7am the following morning in order to address issues revolving around crime and other concerns from the community.

“The operation was a success,” stated Warrant Officer Johannes Maja of Randburg Police, “as during the operation no serious crimes were reported.”

Arrests were made for different crimes including, illegal immigrants, possession of cannabis, possession of suspected stolen property and contravention of municipal by-laws.

The suspects will appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court while the others will be deported.

In other crime-related news, suspected drug dealers were arrested in Bryanston on 19 July and appeared in Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 21 July on charges of possession of cannabis with intention to sell.

“Police members from Randburg were patrolling in Bryanston when they noticed a suspicious vehicle,” said station commander, Brigadier Lettie Hugo. “They decided to stop and search the vehicle and the occupants.”

Hugo further states that upon inspection, the officers found bags full of cannabis to the street value of R10 000. The suspects were subsequently arrested and the investigation continues.
