FONTAINEBLEAU – Businesses' entrance accessible after immense water pipe burst tears up road.

FONTAINEBLEAU – The Johannesburg Roads Agency used its magical road-repair powers to repair the entrance to Fontainebleau Spar on 1 July.

The Spar’s owner, Nick Papayannopoulos, was so happy with the result that he gave the agency’s workers beer and Coca-Cola afterwards.

The road at the entrance (off Republic Road) was originally damaged due to a prolific water pipe burst on 12 June [see It’s almost Atlantis in Randburg Sun week ending 20 June], which caused a cash in transit vehicle to become stuck in mud at the entrance.

The entrance had to be closed in the meantime, and according to Papayannopoulos, fewer customers used Spar, choosing not to drive around the corner to its second entrance.

The entrance to Laser Image, a printing company next door, was also badly damaged and the agency is busy repairing it.

Laser Image Owner Ronald Horst said that the damage to the road outside his business also made entry difficult for customers.

The agency’s spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers said, “We thank the businesses and community for their patience while the Johannesburg Roads Agency has attended to this reinstatement.”
