Randburg Fire Station benefits from MultiChoice’s new office building

BLAIREGOWRIE - MultiChoice helps revamp Randburg Fire Station in the midst of building its new offices.

Construction of the new MultiChoice building on the corner of Republic Road and Bram Fischer Drive has not only created more office space, but has also resulted in Randburg Fire Station being revamped.

According to Ward 102 councillor David Potter, the company’s expansion ”will be contributing hugely to the economic development and growth in Randburg. MultiChoice business expands numerous properties and sites within Randburg, making them the largest business in the Randburg CBD.”

Potter said his role and involvement is to ensure that the City of Joburg responds to the requests of MultiChoice and that their investment and the needs of the residents are accommodated in the ward.

“With the development of their new offices, the company owns the properties such as the fire station. However, the use of the fire station still vests with the City of Joburg. MultiChoice is responsible for the upgrade of the fire station as per the sale agreement of the land,” said Potter.

He added that prior to the Multichoice upgrade, the building was in a bad state and in dire need of repair.

Community education officer Chris Viviers of the Randburg Fire Station said as part of the new office block, which is next to the fire station, MultiChoice has taken the initiative to revamp the station and has also taken over the block of flats that was on the property of the fire station, to build offices.

“We are thankful to have always had a great relationship with them as they have been of amazing help to us in the past by offering to help with the Be Safe Centre. They started the revamp in January this year and should be done with the fire station by August,” Viviers explained.

“At the moment the Randburg fire fighters have been located to the Roosevelt Park Fire Station. We should have the station and our centre up and running by September.”

Trinesha Naidoo of MultiChoice said they could not talk to the media about the building at this stage, but would have a comment in the next year and are looking forward to sharing news about the company in the near future.
