Shoppers – be vigilant to be safe

RANDBURG – Keep yourself safe when going shopping.

During vehicle and foot patrols of shopping malls police have noticed across the country that shoppers and mall visitors expose themselves to becoming victims of crime.

Follow these safety tips when out and about:

– Women are urged not to place their handbags in trolleys – keep them clutched under your arm while doing your shopping with the zip end facing oncoming traffic.

– Men walk with wallets in the back pocket of their pants which may lead to theft by snatching or pocket picking.

– Several people visit banks and fidget for their car keys or parking change on route to their vehicles, thus exposing themselves to being robbed or hijacked. Ensure that your car keys are in your hands before leaving the bank so that you can be vigilant en route to your vehicle to ensure you are not being followed. Also upon entering you vehicle, ensure that you lock your doors.

– Vehicles are found unlocked, and windows are even found wound down, leaving valuables such as mobile phones, identification documents and removable radio/CD players exposed.

– Vehicle owners are also urged to face their vehicle when using a mobile locking device – remote jammers are back in use.
