Zandspruit resident gives back to community

ZANDSPRUIT - A young woman encourages the youth to be educated about career choices and social development.

Seipati Nonyane (26) of Zandspruit hosted a Youth Day event for the community on 16 June at the Emtonjeni Community Centre.

“I grew up in Zandspruit and had to work really hard to get out of poverty. I did not get the chance to further my studies but I made the best of what I got and am still trying to make a better life for myself,” said Nonyane.

Nonyane said the purpose of the event was to empower the youth of Zandspruit through education and information.

“I invited the National Youth Development Agency which gave out some contact details for the youth to use when seeking help with career choices and other matters.”

Youth motivational speaker and Love Life ground breaker Pulane Ntholeng said she came to speak to the youth of Zandspruit about health.

“Teenage pregnancy is trending Zandspruit which means young people are not using any protection methods when having sex. That only means they have a high risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases. I wanted to encourage them to get tested, so they could know their status and that could lead to them taking better care of themselves,” explained Ntholeng.
