This app is the first of its kind in South Africa, as it not only has location capabilities, but also immediately activates emergency response services depending on your specific needs. Through this app, ADT offers you protection not only where their service is focussed (i.e. at your home or business in Sandton), but wherever you go.
Activated easily by shaking, swiping or double tapping, the app sends an alert to the ADT FindU Monitoring Centre, where a specially trained team is on standby to assist you. Alerts are also sent to personal contacts of your choice. Upon receiving the alert, the FindU team will contact you to determine the nature of the emergency and then will dispatch the appropriate response team to your location instantly.
In addition to being able to send an ADT armed response team, the FindU team works closely with the National Sea Rescue Institute, Emergency Medical Services, and mountain & wilderness rescue services to ensure that the best-suited response team is sent to assist you. In addition, you can send an audio/video clip directly from the app to the FindU team to help them better analyse the crisis and ensure they approach a potentially hostile situation in the right manner.
The FindU app can be set to one of three modes: Personal Mode, which can be customised to suit your requirements, Deterrent Mode, which gives off sound and light to show that the phone is being tracked, or Stealth Mode that runs the app in the background and continues to track your location silently.
It works through a combination of your smartphone’s componentry, cell tower triangulation, Wifi hotspot triangulation & GPS satellite positioning. As long as there is cellular reception, the app can track your positioning as you travel throughout the Sandton area and is refreshed every 15 seconds to get the most accurate location possible.
It can be activated whenever you are feeling nervous, going out running, leaving a venue after dark or entering a potentially dangerous situation and you want to know that there is someone looking out for you. A further benefit of the app is that ADT can assist you in locating your lost or stolen cell phone.
By logging onto www.adtfindu.co.za and tracking your phone’s location when it next connects to the internet, ADT is able to potentially locate the criminals that stole your handset. The FindU app is available for download on the following smartphones: Blackberry, Android, iOS or Windows 8.
