Knitting away for a good cause

RANDBURG – Guvon and Indaba Hotels challenge each other to a knit-off of the Scarves-for-schools.

Scarves-for-schools challenge for 2014 sponsored by Med Lemon has kicked-off. Selected old-age homes as well as members of the public have been knitting away to reach their target of 2500 navy-blue scarves which will be donated to three needy schools in Soweto.

In support of this good cause, staff of Guvon Hotels & Spas have been knitting up a storm. In the office, during lunch breaks and even in front of their TVs at night, Guvon fever has reached an all time high. Another reason for this collective knitting exercise, is the challenge posed by Indaba Hotel on the Guvon hotels Facebook page.

On 9 April Indaba hotel management posted a challenge to Guvon hotels staff to knit 100 scarves before the end of May. “What a wonderful initiative for winter,” laughed Christa Badenhorst the group marketing manager. “A cheeky challenge from Indaba hotel but one we are definitely taking up. Its such a wonderful cause initiated by Med Lemon and Glaxo Kline Smith and we are only to happy to contribute. Avianto and Raddison Blue have been challenged on Facebook and we are waiting to see if they have the knitting – know how!”

The staff would also like to extend their gratitude to Reta Coetzee of Guvon hotels central reservations, who gave them knitting lessons beforehand.

For more information on the knitting challenge or if you want to contribute a 1m x 15cm navy blue knitted scarve for a school child in Soweto, please see the Guvon hotels Facebook page or send completed scarves to freepost address: GlaxoSmithKline, Scarves for Schools, Freepost JHZ 1830, Bryanston 2021.
