Hoërskool Randburg’s best pupil

The key to success is balance, says school's top pupil.

Madelein Louw (18) matriculated from Hoërskool Randburg in Johannesburg last year and achieved nine distinctions. Her marks were as follows: Afrikaans 92 percent, English 85 percent, mathematics 94 percent, life orientation 94 percent, accounting 98 percent, physical science 93 percent, mathematics 3 91 percent, and alpha mathematics 98 percent.

Her outstanding results make her top student at her school for 2013. “You only have one matric year, so do everything possible,” Louw said. “Studies still come first, but you need to be involved with many other things. Otherwise you might regret not doing the things you wanted.”

The Hoërskool Randburg headgirl took part in swimming, athletics and netball and was named netball player of the year for 2013. She even managed to fit in the 94.7 Cycle Challenge during her intense matric year. Louw has already arrived at Stellenbosch University where she will study business engineering. “I am going to miss the support network I had in school. In school your teachers knew you well, and now your parents also live far away.”

For Louw achieving balance in life is the key to success, and she looks forward to a life of hard work and fun at university.
