Radley learners spent time at SPCA Randburg

SPCA Randburg gets assistance from the Radley Private School learners who donated goods as part of their community service project.

For the term’s community service project, Radley Private School entrepreneurs spent time at the Randburg SPCA.

The learners donated cat and dog pellets, canned food, water and food bowls, dog kennels and blankets to the organisation.
Principal Charne De Gouveia said the community project was about making the children aware of the SPCA and educating them on the importance of caring for stray animals and making sure they are placed in suitable and loving homes.

“It is important for entrepreneurs to learn to be in or part of a community project to help them learn and give exposure to their community needs,” she said.
“The SPCA project focused on learning about the less fortunate animals. This project helped them realise that charity and community service doesn’t only include helping people but animals too. The majority of community members think that the SPCA is government-funded, however, that is not the case, they rely solely on donations.”

The learners were shown around the kennels by an inspector who explained how they took care of the animals. “They enjoyed being at the SPCA and had a very informative inspector. Most of them were unaware that the SPCA helps all animals including farm and wild animals, and not just cats and dogs.”
