The Randburg CPF is your link to the police

Randburg CPF has a new chairperson in the form of a lawyer, Christopher Kennedy.

Since taking over the reins at the Randburg Community Policing Forum, Christopher Kennedy has been looking at ways to improve communication between SAPS and residents.

Kennedy was elected forum chairperson at the June AGM, and was joined by a whole new executive committee.

“I am new to the CPF,” he said. “I wanted to contribute something to the community and this seemed like a good avenue to do that. I saw that they needed volunteers for various roles. I volunteered for any position where I could be of assistance. It was suggested that I choose chairperson because I am a lawyer.”

Randburg CPF chairperson Christopher Kennedy is new to the role but hopes to make a difference in the community.

Kennedy explained that the SAPS does not have a great public image, which is not helped by instances of incompetence or corruption in their ranks. “Communication is one area the police sometimes struggle with and the CPF is there to tell police what the community needs and tell the community what the police need.”

Sometimes a person will open a case and a day or two later receive a message on their phone saying their case had been closed, with no explanation as to why. The forum is the link between law enforcement and the public, and it does its utmost to encourage good communication.

“There are three sectors in the Randburg police precinct and each has a CPF sector that meets once a month to discuss crime incidents, trends and other useful information. The police are present and we liaise with them.”
