Pirates Juniors enjoy youth games at Diggers
Heather Dolley said that it was a successful day, their juniors enjoyed being hosted by Diggers Juniors and they enjoyed playing against all the other teams that were hosted
Pirates Rugby Club recently participated in the Golden Lions Rugby Union youth development games held at Diggers Rugby Club.
Rugby enthusiasts and parents came out in numbers to witness and show their support for the youth development games and to the young passionate players from the age groups of U6 to U16 from different clubs, such as Wolves, Edendale, Diggers and Wanderers.
The aim of the day was to improve the young player’s skills and provide them with practice time in preparation for their school’s rugby seasons.
Heather Dolley, Pirates Junior Rugby club manager, explained that it’s important for the boys and girls to get game time as they practice twice a week.
“Playing against other teams teaches them sportsmanship and to be gracious in both defeat and winning. Pirates Junior Rugby is growing in strength and I’m very proud of all the teams – win or lose. Club rugby is about development not the win. As long as the kids are having a good time and having fun, that’s a win I will take any day.”
Diggers chairperson Mac McCutcheon said, “The day was definitely a huge success as we saw many boys playing the sport they love. We definitely achieved our goal, which was getting young players on the field to play rugby and improve.”
