A beauty pageant competition to empower the youth
Auditions have already kickstarted at the Vukuzenzele Community Centre.
Vukuzenzele Community Centre in Kya Sand is set to host its annual beauty pageant competition.
The ‘Miss Vuk’ uzenzele’ competition was first held in 2009 and is back again this year with the intention of empowering and boosting the confidence of the young people of Kya Sand and Msawawa.
Nonhlanhla Mosebi, the centre’s director, explained that the competition aims to give young people a chance to show off their skills, grow in confidence, and acquire useful life skills.
Young people in the area are encouraged to enter this exciting competition.
The first category is for young girls under the age of 12, while the second is for girls between the ages of 12 and 18. According to the centre’s treasurer Karabo Magabe, there is only one category for boys between the ages of 12 and 18 years.
Magabe emphasised that there will be rewards up for grabs. “The winner will receive R600, the runner-up will receive R450, and the second runner-up will receive R350, and in addition to the amounts they will be given gift cards.”
The competition is scheduled to take place on October 28, at the centre. Before it could get started the organisers need various sponsors to make the event a success, such as ‘with make-up, clothing, hair, décor, catering, entertainment, and sound, as well as security, marketing, and branding of gazebos, tickets, and flyers’, according to Magabe.
