Diggers host a successful youth rugby event
Diggers chairperson said that they have school scouts that come to these games and pick the boys for their school teams and offer them the bursaries

Passionate young rugby players gathered at Diggers Rugby Club ready to show off their skills to their parents, rugby enthusiasts and scouts who came out to show their support.

The club hosted Golden Lions Rugby Union youth rugby development teams from U6 to U16. Clubs that participated were Pirates, Wolves, Edendale and Wanderers. The aim of the day was to improve the young player’s skills and provide them with practice time in preparation for their school’s rugby seasons.

Diggers chairperson Mac McCutcheon said club rugby was about player development and confidence building.

“We want to mature and upskill these boys. Yes, it’s nice to win but it’s more than that here, we want to get them to the next level,” he said.

“The day was definitely a huge success as we saw many boys playing the sport they love. We definitely achieved our goal which was getting young players on the field to play rugby and improve.”
