New ways to try keep residents off the streets in Windsor
Security company said their goal going forward is to engage more community members and even raise funds to open the aerobics studio for them
Papamani Reaction collaborated with a number of organisations to put up a successful aerobics event in Windsor.
The goal of the first festival was to bring young people together in a safe environment and keep them off the streets.
Marketing manager of Papamani Reaction Mathuto Mashangwane said, “We are experiencing high crime rates as a security company in the Windsor area. We are trying to keep people off the streets so we thought why not introduce aerobics so that the community could come together.”
Other stakeholders, such as Windsor Community Support Services, Clicks, Up My Street, Byron Thomas Properties and local gyms played an important role in being present and donating various items, including food, to make the day a success.
The event catered to everyone – young and old, males and females. The older children participated in aerobics, while the younger children enjoyed self-defence classes and jumping castles.
“Everybody had a wonderful time and the feedback was great from the community groups – hence, we are planning another one. If we can do more events like that then they will keep people busy and most of them – especially younger ones – will have the opportunity to find themselves and their passion.”
She added that the event was a success. Most people didn’t know about it, so they will improve on the advertising on the next ones.
“We are looking into having such community gatherings twice a month and we got fitness instructors from different towns to play their part. Our next one will be at Robinhills Primary School in late August.”
Mashangwane thanked all the organisations for their support of the event.
