Community enjoys Submission Kings, Queens and Kids

Brazillian jiu-jitsu competitors and their supporters come from across Africa to the Submission Kings, Queens and Kids.

Families and friends of hundreds of Brazillian jiu-jitsu competitors formed a vibrant crowd at Submission Kings, Queens and Kids on July 24 and 25.

They cheered contestants on as they grappled on three mats laid out at the Walter Sisulu Hall at Randburg Sports Complex. A coffee stand and Brazilian jiu-jitsu merchandise were on sale to keep people entertained between fights when competitors they knew were stretching or preparing mentally for the next match.

“I have come from Benoni, and I am loving this,” said Dafiyah Hansrod, who was competing in the women’s intermediate blue and purple belt 66kg division. “I want to win a medal today.”

Neil Sears, who attended with his sons Nic and Matt said they were all having a good time and enjoying the quality of jiu-jitsu on show.
