Nestle Bar One to keep Randburg Library lights on

Nestle Bar One commits to keeping the lights on for four libraries during power outages and load-shedding.

The Randburg Library is one of four that will benefit from the Nestle Bar One NeedEnergy campaign, which aims to keep the lights on during load-shedding.

The campaign aims to instal generators as a response to load-shedding and power disruptions to libraries.

The generator will keep the library open. Students will no longer exit the facility due to lack of light, public computers and Wi-Fi services. Students will feel safe in knowing that the facility will always be open.

Matete Lesele, senior librarian at Randburg Library, said that sometimes load-shedding would be for four hours and students would not come to the facility at all.

“If they are at the facility, they would leave as soon as load-shedding starts. Load-shedding affected our services but the generator will bring power back to the people and allow our services to continue.”

He added that the generator has already been and will continue to be beneficial, to learners especially now that they are busy with exams.

Bar One collaborated with music pioneer Oskido, actresses Kamogelo Molatlhoe and Lerato Mokoka, and entrepreneur Mathebe Molise to reach out to a wider audience. At the event guests were also asked to tweet and retweet to reach a one million tweets goal.

They also shared their success story with the visitors and learners, as well as encouraged and applauded the value of education.

Brand manager Nontando Khubisa said that Bar One identified the four libraries based on their needs.

“City of Johannesburg helped us identify the libraries where we could truly partner and keep the lights on. We instal the temporary solutions but we can’t do things alone as the brand. We have to do it together and we had to ask the social media community and the country at large to retweet and reshare this campaign so that we can together instal a permanent solution of solar power.”

Lesele concluded that the library’s services will never stop and all is thanks to Bar One. “We are thankful for what they have done for our facility.”
