Local girls to participate in a indoor Netball World Cup

Local girls who have been chosen to represent South Africa in the next indoor Netball World Cup are still in need of contributions.

Three indoor netball players are appealing to the community to assist them in achieving their goals after being selected to represent the country in an Indoor Netball World Cup in Australia.

Tatijana Kozul and Kiara Coppens were selected at the inter-provincial tournament held at the Midstream Action Arena. The squad then had to go to a set of trials so that they could pick the final team for the U23s.

Tyler Roberts was selected at her inter-provincial tournament at the Fourways Arena for the U19 mixed team.

Kozul said that this selection means so much to her. Netball has been her passion ever since she started as a little girl. It has always been a dream to represent the country while playing the sport that she loves – especially after years of hard work, passion and dedication.

“I am looking forward to the competition and the opportunity to travel and play against amazing countries that have been know for their incredible skills while also showing them what South Africa is made of,” said Kazul.

She added that she hoping to achieve experience and memories with the team while aiming to go for the gold.

Coppens has represented SA twice in tournaments played in the country. She said that to go to Australia to play against them on their home soil will be a new great experience.

“I’m proud and honoured to represent my country. I’m looking forward to the competition and playing against Australia and New Zealand as they are known for their strong netball skills.”

Eighteen-year-old Roberts is hoping to bring back gold for the sixes and the sevens team. “I am honoured to represent my country. It means the world to me and it’s everything that I dreamt of. I am looking forward to representing my country and singing my national anthem.”

Lack of funding from governing bodies and national associations, makes it very difficult for players and coaches to represent their country.

The girls are doing everything they possibly can – from face painting, to walking around at different venues collecting money, golf day, barn yard, selling raffles and back-a-buddies to raise funds for the trip.
