Local Hip Hop artist hopes to increase his fan base

The rapper said that there is still plenty to be done. However, and this is just the beginning for him in the music industry

My name is Similo Ndlovu, my stage name is just Similo.

I first became interested in music when I was a child. My uncles would listen to a lot of rap music back then and whenever I got home, I’d stand in front of the mirror reciting the songs that I liked. Imagining what it would be like if I were a famous musician.

I started experimenting with it throughout primary school, but it was until early on in high school that I really got inspired to make a career out of it. I’d listen to the songs that some of the older kids would make and draw inspiration from them. I started recording music in Grade 11. When I moved to Pretoria, this is where everything truly changed.

I went from being known for writing and freestyling to being known as a recording artist and I’ve only been improving since then. I’ve made so much progress since I started out but I still feel there’s a long way to go until I achieve what I want to achieve in this industry.

I’ve also performed a few times since last year and I’ve enjoyed my experiences. My recently released mixtape called Vivid Dreams is a compilation of some of the music I recorded last year. It tells a story of certain phases in my own personal journey in a way that is raw and eloquent. I will be on a tour called the Vivid Dreams Tour to promote my mix tape. It takes place on the 16th, 23rd and 30th of June as well as the 7th of July. I want to create a culture of inclusiveness amongst upcoming artists.

The aim is to try and further solidify a fan base in my community and other areas that my listeners reside in as well as to raise enough tuition money for myself to be able to study Sound Engineering next year. I want to give other artists the same platform that I want so that we can all become something. I’m not just focused on my own plate. People can expect a lot of fresh talent, good music and a great time from the tour.
