Parents and families gather to cheer for the learners at Nova Pioneer
Excited learners left it all in the field and pool when performing in front of their families and friends at the Nova Pioneer's sports day
Learners were jumping for joy and screaming their lungs out, cheering for their mates while dressed up in their house colours during the term one sports day at Nova Pioneer in North Riding.
Little ones were treated with fun games such as an egg run, sack race and wheelbarrow race. They also displayed their athletic skills in the 100m sprints and relay runs. The senior learners participated in swimming and athletics.
Head of school Nneamaka Eziukwu said that the aim of the sports day was to build and encourage the sense of community. “There is excitement and joy of winning and joy of community. We are monitoring sporting skills in athletics and swimming, as well as what the learners have been working on during the pysical education (PE) classes.
Parents and families came in numbers to support the sports day and to cheer for the learners.
“It is always different when you are performing for an audience. Parents being here is a different motivation for the learners. They feel seen and validated,” added Eziukwu.
Everyone around the school was energetic and in the spirits of sports and togetherness.
Head of sport Michaela Kruger said, “We are trying to get our families and children involved in as many sports as possible. We want to create some culture and teach them good sportsman skills so that they learn how to win, loose and always bring out their best.”
She added that this is an important day for the learners, because they get to be part of something that is bigger themselves.
