Oasis Haven to host bingo with a difference

Vouchers from Takealot and Amazon will be up for grabs in the online event.

Oasis Haven is encouraging the community to join its online Bingo challenge in April.

All proceeds of this go towards the organisation’s two children’s homes in Robin Hills, which cater to 10 boys and 10 girls.

Through this online event, one can compete in mental and physical challenges from anywhere in the world.

There are weekly prizes in vouchers, and the overall winner – the first to complete the entire board – will receive a grand prize.

The home’s fundraising manager, Qondani Tshuma, explained that participants can expect simple challenges, such as doing 20 squats and giving bread to the homeless.

An example of a mental challenge was for a person to write down their goals for the year. Something like this would not be shared with others though, as it is a personal matter, but once it is done it can be ticked off.

How the game works

There are short daily activities sent through participants via WhatsApp.

A random number will be drawn each day, Monday to Friday starting on April 3. Weekends are used to catch up on any missed challenges from the week.

Amazon and Takealot vouchers of R300 will go to the first person to complete a row of challenges each week.

The overall winner is the first person to complete the board and say, ‘Bingo’.

They win a R1 000 voucher.

The homes cater to children from three months of age until they finish with high school and provide food and lodging, education, medication, therapy, and emotional support.

There are also outings and experiences for the children, provided by restaurants, venues and groups.

The homes even have their own extensive playgrounds, libraries and boardgames rooms.

There is tight security, with CCTV footage from several cameras.
