New Grade 1s have a blast and make new friends at Rand Park Primary School

It was the parents who had to hide their tears as they said goodbye to their little ones starting Grade 1.

New friends were the order of the day as Grade 1 learners had their first day at Rand Park Primary School.

Smiles abounded as the youngsters wrote their names on their little whiteboards to show to each other.

It took no time at all to learn each other’s names and take the first steps of friendship on January 11.

Teachers, Tracy Smerdon and Sue Gregor-Harlen were particularly good with making the youngsters feel comfortable and calming any fears that might have been building when the youngsters said goodbye to their parents.

The parents, for their part, had to wipe away a tear or two when they were out of sight of their little ones.

But it was a proud moment for them and they counted down the hours and minutes until they could pick their children up from school.
