Randburg Harriers Valentine’s run to be held at night again

The decades-old run will see community members wear tutus, wigs, wings and other vibrant clothing at the run.

The community can look forward to another fun, energy-filled and romantic Valentine’s night run hosted by Randburg Harriers.

The running club in Praegville will host the annual event in the evening again, after 2022’s edition saw a chilled outdoor family picnic vibe prevail and about half as many runners as usual due to Covid-19 protocols.

“It reverts to its original Friday night slot,” Randburg Harriers chairperson Jacob Shayi said of the run on February 17.

“People will appreciate that it will be a night run again. It is a festive night event that evokes a vibe and atmosphere. The theme is #Loveisintheair.”

The run kicks off at 19:00 and as always, runners are encouraged to dress to impress.

Usually, people wear vibrant colours, tutus, wings, wigs, crowns and tiaras.

The run is challenging, having one of the hilliest 10km routes in Joburg.

But a great atmosphere is always seen as residents come out of their homes to cheer runners on and bands perform in the street.

The club enjoyed its annual Gog Jog in December, otherwise known as the chairman’s run.

During this run, participants visit five pubs along the route and at each one they have a drink before moving on.

The distance was almost 7km so it always makes for a lot of fun.
