Run the North – Northgate Road Race makes successful come back

Runners take to the streets for the 24th annual Road Race at Northgate Shopping Centre.

An estimate of over 1000 runners participated in the 24th anniversary of the Run the North – Northgate Road Race held at Northgate Shopping Centre on October 16.

Fitness fanatics braved the overcast weather as they arrived earlier than the race which was at 07:00 to begin warming up in preparation for the 5km and 10km races.

Age was nothing but a number at this race as runners ranged from as young as four and as old as 60 and above. Nomathemba Zulu marketing exhibition manager of Northgate Shopping Centre was pleased with the turnout after the two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

Thousands of runners joined the 24th anniversary of the Run the North – Northgate Road Race.

The well-known road race was hosted in collaboration with Roodepoort Athletics Club.

This race was made possible through a partnership with Northgate Shopping Centre and its tenants such as Toyota Halfway Honeydew and Value Co.

The start gun was fired at 07:00 at Entrance 4 parking lot of the shopping centre for all the runners to start the race.

There were a whole host of winners from the race. The categories for male and female were; open, veteran, master, grandmaster, great grandmaster and junior. The runners were kept safe with JMPD SE (Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department Special Events) units as they cleared the roads and race marshals officiating throughout the race.

Great grandmaster 10km first place:
Grandmaster 10km for 60+ first place:
