Successful artist visits Ferndale

His District Six artworks were showed in America when the United States had seen little of the country under Apartheid.

There is always room in your home for some good art.

So said Johan Manefeldt, a seasoned artist and traveller who has exhibited and sold his work all over South Africa and America.

“When I took my District Six works to the United States it was an exciting time of sharing our history and culture with people there,” he told Randburg Sun while exhibiting his artwork with the Randburg Art Society at Ferndale on Republic.

“It was the first time some people in America were seeing how life was like in District Six. I won three awards there.”

Manefeldt mainly focuses on acrylics and oil on canvas and his landscapes are some of the best around. His scenes of the Cape Winelands are among the best you can find on canvas.

His paintings are not cheap, but you certainly receive more than you pay for in quality.

“Often people will say R5 000 or R10 000 is too much for a painting but they go and buy an expensive car they do not need,” he said.

“Money is relative, so what is expensive for one person is cheap for another. When it comes to paintings, the time and effort an artist puts in make it more than worth its cost.”

A painting is an investment because it not only makes the home look nicer but the artwork’s value increases and it can be sold for more at a later date.

Manefeldt has been interested in art all his life and has painted professionally since 1972.

He has visited countries all over the world to meet his constant need for inspiration.

He has developed a keen interest in painting pictures with an emphasis on light and shadow.
