Velocity Football Academy builds future soccer stars

Young footballers train endlessly in preparation for a one-of-a-kind international football tournament set in Spain.

Velocity Football Academy (VFA) has announced that their U15 players would be competing in the Surf Cup International in Spain later this year.

The Surf Cup International in association with International Development Academy (IDA) will be hosted at Salou Sports Centre in Salou, Spain from November 24–27. The U15 team are training hard and are excited about the tournament.

VFA prides themselves in providing exposure for their young players to international-level football.
Club director Aidan Smidt said, “The benefits of this tour is for the boys to experience what it takes to play oversees as the level over there is out of this world and we are trying as an academy to get up to that level and show the players what level they need to be at.
“We are excited to have this partnership with IDA as well because we can lead potential scholarship opportunities for players here in South Africa to Europe.”

VFA is located in North Riding and the footballers train at North Riding College. The football academy offers tailored football training for both girls and boys of all ages. VFA offers strength and conditioning training, tournaments, leagues and scholarship opportunities.

The VFA teams include U7–U15, U17, U19 and seniors with training sessions throughout the week. The U7–U15 teams play in mixed friendly games as there are not enough players to fill a complete girls’ team to enter the league.

Locally, all VFA teams play in the Rand Central Local Football Association League, with matches taking place every Saturday and Sunday. The seniors play in Division 1.

Smidt said, “The boys are finishing off their league games in August which has been a great achievement for them as they are in the top 3 at the moment. Once that is done, we prepare them for the tournament with upcoming friendly games to tweak our gameplay.
“Homework skills programmes will be given to the players to work the final detail into their game.”

He added that they would host three sessions a week with games on the weekend, which would include conditioning, technical skills and tactical work with video analysis of games.

VFA are appealing to all girls and boys of all ages to come by and join their football academy.
