Honeydew police proud of constable’s work in putting man behind bars for killing wife

Constable's interviews and research put the man in jail for 15 years and declared him unfit to possess a firearm.

Honeydew police have commended one of its officers for the work he did that led to the sentencing of a man for murder.

Police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan said at about 03:45 on December 28 last year, the police were called to Mauritania Crescent, Cosmo City, regarding a murder.

The police went to the scene and the first responder found the body of a woman with multiple injuries.

The husband was present and he alleged that people had killed his wife. The husband had no injuries.

Muthan said the crime scene was gruesome with blood all over. An officer on the scene questioned the husband and realised the husband was not telling the truth and was hiding something. The husband was arrested for murder and it was up to the detectives to prove this case.

The docket was allocated to Constable Lunga Ndziwa of the Honeydew detective service. He traced the brother of the deceased and after interviewing him, obtained important relevant information and a statement which helped in proving the case. Ndziwa opposed bail and it was denied.

The constable further traced witnesses and obtained statements relating to the suspect’s personality, behaviour and family relations, and also some learned history of the deceased.

Ndziwa prepared the case for trial and ensured the investigation was up to date and the docket ready for court.
The suspect decided to plead guilty and it was accepted as it was corroborated by information attained in the investigation.

The suspect was sentenced to 15 years direct imprisonment and was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

“The member [Ndziwa], as a young, relatively new detective is commended for his effort, dedication and work ethic. This is an example to many and it is certain that this member has the right attitude and approach to ensure further successes,” Muthan concluded.
