Rand Symphony Orchestra hosts Rising Stars Youth Concert
Classical music lovers were honoured with sounds of elegance and balance at St Bonifatius Church.
Families, friends and members of the community were stunned at the performances by the young stars at the Rand Symphony Orchestra Rising Stars Youth Concert at St Bonifatius Church on June 19.
The audience was blessed with performances from Emily and Lilian Geekie, Jayden Li, Mbali Phato, Talita Smith, Chi-Chi Juan, Sara Stoffberg, Kehan Taljaard, Marilize Diedericks, Simon Holm and Annie Chang. The young, mind-blowing performers exhibited their musical genius through various instruments such as the piano, violin, saxophone, cello and trombone.
The Rand Symphony Orchestra led by conductor and musical director Carel Henn accompanied each solo performer.
“Because of Covid-19, we could not have these two concerts in the last few years. So we are very happy to be able to present this youth concert,” said Henn.
Attendees, the Fouries, who did not want their full names published said, “It is truly wonderful and unbelievable to see young performers. We are enjoying the performances we’ve seen so far.”
The Diemont family found the performances to be quite beautiful. “It is amazing to see such young performers playing so incredibly.”
Another attendee, Gareth Bunge applauded the young performers for their talent and encouraged them to keep up their good work.
Carla van den Berg, one of the violinists in the orchestra said, “It’s my first performance with this orchestra and it’s very nice.”
Overall, the crowd was thrilled by the raw and remarkable musical abilities showcased by the young, superbly, talented Rising Stars.
