Learners of Curro Aurora recently achieved excellent results in the ATKV Redenaars competition.
The Afrikaans public speaking event hosted by Afrikaans language and culture association, ATKV, is an annual event and learners of the school in Sundowner have reached the semi-finals.
Primary School learners Amy Crous (Grade 5), Ewan Liechti (Grade 7) and Zoe Niemand (Grade 4) participated in the competition and all three made it into the top 10 for Gauteng west.
Ewan and Amy qualified for the finals that will take place on August 16 and 17 at ATKV-Buffelspoort.
“This is a fantastic achievement,” said marketing coordinator for the school Mageshree Tandree.
“We wish both Amy and Ewan the best of luck.”
Four high school learners also competed in this year’s competition under the guidance of Helen Steyn and the Afrikaans department.
Jada Reddy, Isabella Plange and Leah van Dyk participated in the additional language category.
Again, all three learners made it into the top 10 for Gauteng west.
Jada and Isabella placed in the top two in their respective grade groups and have been invited to the prestigious finals which will be held in August.
Karla Lotz participated in the home language category and has made it through to the semi-final.
“We are extremely proud of all our Afrikaans public speakers,” Tandree concluded.
